PALM BEACH

Three narrative strands involving drug dealing, a teenage runaway being tracked down by a private eye (John Flaus), and an unemployed drifter (Bryan Brown), are set and filmed in the surfing sub-culture of Sydney's northern suburbs. The strands tentatively intersect rather than collide in an exploration of milieu rather than characterisation, through Thoms' use of the sequence shot and sound in long takes. Plus Thoms' Bolero (1972, 27 mins), to the music of Ravel. (BH)
