A mind bending time travel genre mashup, a historical allegory, labels abound when discussing Mani Haghighi’s latest film which begins on the 22nd of January 1965, a quintessentially American chevrolet driving towards a shipwreck in the desert. A prisoner inside has hung himself and we are one day away from the Iranian Prime Minister (real or no) being shot dead outside of the parliament building. Questions abound as a police inspector begins his investigation with the help of a sound engineer and a geologist. Years later, all evidence of the investigation is found in a box - what happened to these men, and why were they arrested?

“At it’s core, this is (probably) a story about three men who go to the remote, desertified Iranian island of Qeshm in 1965 to investigate the aftermath of a suicide of a political prisoner.” Screen Daily
