Based on the novel La Mara by Rafael Ramírez Heredia, a pair of young lovers are reunited in the desolate conditions on the Mexican-Guatemalan border.   Sixteen-year-old Sabina and eighteen-year-old Jovany, both Hondurans, happen to meet again after years without seeing each other. She dreams of becoming a great singer in the United States, while he tries to become a member of the la Mara Salvatrucha gang, committing atrocious initiations in the meantime. Faced with problems like white slavery, migratory agents, drug trafficking, the army, and a handful of other desperate conditions, Sabina continues to seek for hope and the ability to dream.
