Battleship Potemkin

Battleship Potemkin

 LIVE PERFORMANCE BY TIM WHITT

An absolute must see film, on the big screen, Eisenstein’s classic remains a reference point for anyone with more than a mild interest in cinema. As a film, it was a point of ideological conflict between the East and West, the Left and Right, as well as a masterful propaganda work. Played out in five acts, the film depicts a dramatised account of a great Russian naval mutiny and a resulting street demonstration which brought on a police massacre.  The Odessa steps  sequence has been referenced in countless films, notably The Shining, Brazil, The Godfather and  The Untouchables.
