EAST OF EDEN

Brothers Cal (James Dean) and Aron (Richard Davalos) are polar opposities, but both strive for the love and respect of their puritanical father. Cal though, must struggle alone with his private knowledge that their mother is alive and running a nearby brothel and the complications when Aron’s girlfriend begins developing feelings for him. This adaptation of Steinbeck’s Cain and Abel, features Dean in his first feature film portrayal of created the prototype for disaffected youth characters. Dean’s first major role is also the last one he would ever see released to the big screen. Print courtesy of the National Film and Sound Archive.
