LEFT LUGGAGE

LEFT LUGGAGE

In post-WW2 Holland a young Jewish woman, Chaya (Laura Fraser), takes on the role of nanny in a strict Hassidic household. The household matriarch (Rossellini) warms to the new addition as she draws the youngest child out of his silent shell, but the father (played by director Jeroen Krabbé) proves a harsher judge. Through tragedy and marginalisation, Chaya begins to reconnect with her own Judaism and process the pain of the recent past that still has a grip on her father.
