On the waterfront

On the waterfront

The brutally honest On The Waterfront, a film about union corruption on the New York harbour waterfront, is a must see film that some consider one of the greatest films in the history of international cinema. Winner of eight Academy Awards, including one of two Kazan received for Best Director (his other was for East of Eden), Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress.  Under the masterful directing of Kazan, Marlon Brando redefined the possibilities of acting for film and helped permanently alter the cinematic landscape. His character Terry Malloy famously said  ‘I could have been a contender.’ This film was more than just a contender; it was the victor.
