THE LONG GOODBYE

THE LONG GOODBYE

All he did was give an old friend a ride to the Mexican border, but for private detective Philip Marlowe (Elliott Gould) this helpful gesture immediately backfires when the police accuse him of becoming an accessory to murder. Refusing to sell out his friend and not buying their version of events, Marlowe finds himself drawn into a world of casual violence and betrayal. Loosely adapting and updating Raymond Chandler’s classic novel of the same name, Altman and veteran screenwriter Leigh Brackett make Marlowe an anachronism in a Los Angeles devoid of meaning.
