THREE COLOURS: RED

THREE COLOURS: RED

Widely regarded as the pinnacle of Kieslowski’s considerable powers (and picked by Magaret and David as one of the best films of all time), Red explores the ties that bind two seemingly unrelated characters as the director tackles the theme of fraternity. A part-time model, Valentine (Irène Jacob), is drawn into the world of a retired judge (Jean-Louis Trintignant) when she accidentally runs over his dog. Initially disgusted by the judge who spies on his neighbours, Valentine finds herself becoming closer and closer to him as her optimistic, caring nature is pummelled by forces beyond her control.  Print courtesy of the National Film and Sound Archive.
