WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?

WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?

Love and Pain and the Whole Damn Thing… Mike Nichols directs Liz Taylor and Richard Burton in this savage portrayal of a marriage in meltdown. Shot by the legendary Haskell Wexler in glorious black and white, it was Nichols’s directorial debut, and became the first film in history to be nominated for every Oscar category. The dialogue is searing, (the film began life as an already successful Edward Albee play), and there is hardly a wrong turn by either director or actor. Has there ever been a film so brilliant, so scathing, so sad, cruel, funny and absolutely excoriating all at once?
