THE SOUTHERNER

THE SOUTHERNER

While in exile in the US during the Second World War, Renoir made six films of which The Southerner is widely considered the best. Renoir manages to depict Americana extraordinarily well in this story of a Texan cotton picker who aspires to run his own farm and create a better life for his family. But this is a classic tale of scraping out an existence on a farm when up against nature and the Tucker family is faced with struggle. Academy nominated, winner of Venice FF Critics prize.
