ANTON CHEKHOV 1890

ANTON CHEKHOV 1890

Summer 1890. To earn a little money and feed his family, Anton Chekhov (played with great subtlety by Nicolas Giraud), a country doctor, writes sketches for newspapers under a pseudonym Antosha Chekhonte. An important writer and publisher pay him a visit and insist on his talent. Using his real name, his literary fame grows. But when one of his brothers dies of tuberculosis, Anton wants to give it all up.  Daringly, Féret approaches the material in the style of Chekhov, and the result is as limpid and devastating as the Russian master's best.
