Only Yesterday

Only Yesterday

EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT (JAPANESE) CINEMA BUT WERE TOO AFRAID TO ASK

This is an animated story about Taeko, a 27-year-old Tokyo office worker who visits family in the country.  Memories of the past come flooding back while she also deals with some adult realities in the present time. Based on the Manga by Uko Tone and Kei Okamoto, the inner life of Taeko and the present are distinguished by contrasting graphic styles helping to create the vivid cinematic experience that helped the film to be the number one box office hit in Japan in the year of its release.
