Yentl

Early 20C Poland is not an accepting place for an intelligent, independent Jewish girl studying the Talmud, but with men’s clothing and a new name, Yentl (Barbra Streisand) enters the yeshiva. Streisand’s directorial debut avoids simplistic cross-dressing gags in favour of building a solid case against rigid gender roles.  Oscar winner for Best Score.
